Citibank offers certificates of deposit (CDs) across various terms not found at many banks. Customers have ample flexibility when choosing term lengths, spanning three months to five years.

Though CDs at big banks often have lackluster rates, Citi offers several CDs with competitive rates that are worth considering.

Check out Bankrate’s detailed review of Citibank to learn how they scored across deposit products compared to other big banks.

Citibank CD rates

There are many different term lengths for Citibank CDs with varying rates. For CDs with a term length of one year or less, interest is paid either monthly or at the end of the term. For CDs with a term length greater than one year, interest is paid monthly.

In addition to standard fixed-rate CDs, Citibank also offers two other CD types: a Step Up CD and a No Penalty CD.

Here’s a closer look at Citibank’s CD products.

Citibank specialty CD options

Step-up CD (30 months): Your rate increases every 10 months throughout the term — but the composite APY of 0.10% makes this more of a gimmick than a genuine high-yield option. Skip this unless you have a very specific reason to lock money away with gradually increasing (but still low) returns.

No Penalty CD (1 year): Withdraw your full balance anytime after the first seven days with no early withdrawal fee. The current rate is just 0.05% APY, which you can easily beat with a high-yield savings account that offers full flexibility from day one. This product makes sense only if you absolutely must have a CD-style structure but might need your money back.

Rates are accurate as of September 21, 2026 and may vary by region.

How Citibank CD rates compare to top-yielding banks

The featured rates on short terms between 3 and 8 months are genuinely competitive — they don’t quite match the absolute best online banks, but they are close enough that the convenience of Citibank's branch network might justify the small difference.

Longer terms are where Citibank falls behind. Compare current CD rates and you'll find online banks paying notably more for 1-year, 3-year and 5-year terms. The gap is significant enough to matter over multi-year commitments.

Other savings options at Citibank

Citibank also offers an online-only savings account that pays a higher rate than most of its CDs, but it’s unavailable in select markets. If you don't need the locked rate of a CD, the savings account may offer better returns with full flexibility.
