Alliant Credit Union High-Rate Savings account
Pros
-
The high-yield savings account pays a solid APY.
-
There’s no monthly fee.
-
Members can open multiple accounts to track specific savings goals.
Cons
-
There are higher savings APYs available at certain online banks.
-
You need to have at least $100 to earn interest with the credit union’s High-Rate Savings account.
-
Your account may be closed if your balance falls below $5.
Alliant Credit Union’s high-yield savings account pays a solid APY, though it doesn't quite compete with the top APYs currently available. It also has a $100 minimum balance requirement to earn, which is something you can skip with a number of online banks.
Despite the drawbacks, it is a low-free account with no monthly maintenance or nonsufficient funds fee, and comes with a savings ATM card, something not offered by every bank. Alliant also lets members open up to 19 savings accounts — called supplemental savings accounts — to save for specific goals. Members can name each account based on their goals, allowing them to track progress easily.
Alliant Credit Union certificates of deposit
Pros
-
CDs have competitive yields.
-
Solid range of CD terms to choose from.
-
IRA CDs available.
Cons
-
No specialty bump-up or no-penalty CDs.
-
A $1,000 deposit for a CD is relatively standard, some banks have lower minimum opening deposit requirements.
Alliant offers a range of CD term lengths, and all of them carry solid to competitive APYs. Customers can choose from CD terms ranging from three months to five years, with enough options between to build a CD ladder.
All CDs are insured by the NCUA and require $1,000 to open, or $75,000 for a jumbo CD, which pays a slightly higher APY for certain terms. The credit union also doesn’t have a maximum amount that you can put in a CD, but lacks no-penalty and bump-up CD options.

| Alliant Credit Union offers two savings accounts in addition to its CDs. In particular, its High-Rate Savings account offers a solid yield and comes with few fees. You must maintain at least $5 in the account to keep it open, and have an average daily balance of $100 to earn interest. Alliant allows you to open up to 19 “supplemental savings” accounts to save for specific goals. | Ally Bank consistently offers a strong yield on its Online Savings Account. It’s not usually the absolute highest yield, but it is competitive and there’s no minimum balance requirement and no monthly service fee. The bank offers mobile deposit but you’ll need to transfer money to your checking account or Ally’s money market account if you want to access your savings from an ATM. | |
